Edward Y. Hsi,

Siberian & Associates. Edward, based in Los Angeles,
maintains a local presence through a rep office in
Southeast Asia. |

Edward has a B.S.
degree in finance and economics from the University of
Southern California (1980), an M.B.A. degree from Duke
University (Accounting Program Perfect Score – 4.0 of
4.0)(1983), and a Juris Doctor degree from the University
of California, Davis (1986), where he was a California
Fellows scholarship recipient, graduated with highest
honors as a member of the National Order of the Coif, and
was proposed by the full faculty for the J.S.Dr.
professorship program at Stanford University.
Edward is a member of the
California Bar (1986), the U.S. District Court for the
Central District of California (1987), the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (1987), the U.S. Tax Court
(1988), and the U.S. Supreme Court (1991).
Edward is an internationally noted lawyer, venture
capitalist and industry executive with substantial
experience throughout the Asia-Pacific region in all
aspects of cross-border investments and venture capital,
mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and
restructuring, and multi-jurisdictional corporate
litigation and arbitration. From 1992 to 2004, Edward
served as president director or managing director in the
development of ventures in the following industry sectors:
energy; oil & gas; infrastructure; technology (internet,
smart cards and bio-medical); and media. From 1994 to
1996, as the CEO of the oil & gas division of a leading
Southeast Asian conglomerate, Mr. Hsi was instrumental in
the creation of Indonesia’s private-sector oil & gas
industry (including the developme nt of Indonesia’s first
private-sector condensate-based refinery and aromatics
petrochemical center at Arun, Aceh, Sumatra, and the KMI
methanol processing plant at Bontang, East Kalimantan).
From 1998 to 2000, Edward was a Co-Founder and Managing
Partner of Taira & Hsi, International Lawyers, in
cooperation with Kaye Scholer LLP, and Grant Thornton
Taira Hsi, in joint venture with Grant Thornton Indonesia.
As a Special Advisor to the shareholders of a
publicly-listed conglomerate, Edward successfully defended
the shareholders against Lehman Brothers Asia in one of
the first financial litigation cases to arise out of the
1997 Asia Monetary Crisis. The multi-jurisdictional,
multi-million dollar derivatives and guarantee action,
which was litigated in the Singapore, Indonesia and United
States courts, established a landmark precedent in
Singapore with national significance against international
banks with Indonesian exposure.
Edward also functioned from 1998 to 2000 as an Advisor to
the Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament (MPR) in
connection with the preparation of National Economic
Development Policy Papers on a ‘National
Industrial Development and Revitalization Policy For The
Republic of Indonesia In The Aftermath of 1997 Asia
Financial Crisis,’ and a policy proposal on the ‘Economic
Revitalization of the Province of Aceh as an Autonomous
Region within a Unitary Indonesia.’ |
